There are lots of hairless cat breeds. However, Sphynx cats are the most common and the most popular among them. There are lots of pet lovers who are captivated with the appearance of the Sphynx. They are not merely hairless. They only have fine and soft hair that is almost invisible. Because of this, they depend to their owners for warmth and comfort. If you are planning to get one, you may consider these care tips below:

Feeding
Sphynx cats tend to eat huge amount of foods. They have higher metabolism compare to other cat breeds. This is because, their body compensates their being lack of coat. This means that their body works hard just to achieve the right level of warmth that they need. That’s why you should not leave them without adequate food. And, they also love to drink water. That’s why never forget to provide and to change their water daily.

Grooming
Although they are considered as hairless, it is not a reason not to bathe them. It is recommended to bathe them at least once a week to maintain their hygiene. One of the best characteristics of Sphynx cat is that they can tolerate bathing unlike the other regular cats. You can use antimicrobial soap or shampoo which is not harmful for them. As much as possible, do not prolong the bathing time as they feel easily cold. Make sure that you have prepared towels for them so that they will be kept dry and warm.

Cleaning the ears
After bathing, you may clean their ears. Dirt builds up more in their ears because they lacking of coat. It will help if you will consult the vet first so that he can show you how. Once you’ll reach home, you will already know what to do and how to do it. Be careful in doing this as their ears are sensitive.

Cleaning the eyes and nails
You may also do this right after bathing. However, since they don’t have hairs and eye lashes, their eyes tend to be dirty most of the time. In this case, just get a damp cloth and wipe both eyes.

In cleaning the nails, look for the pink part. Do not cut on that part as this can be painful for them. If that part is unclear, it is safer to trim their nails only instead of cutting them.

Maintaining the litter box
There are different kinds of litter box. Choose the one that gives easy access and comfort to the cats every time they are going to use it. But most importantly, remove the waste daily and clean the whole litter box at least once a week. You may use disinfectant solution to remove the bacteria. A clean litter box will encourage them to release themselves by using it.

Training
Obedience training is important to cats. This will make them behave appropriately. Sphynx cats are intelligent. That’s why training them can never be a problem. However, they may be relentless even for the things which you don’t want them to do. Despite of this, never punish them. Instead, use positive reinforcement to control their negative behaviours.

Great informative hub. It expresses not only cat care, but an essence of loving a pet. One a force - caring, and the other a power - love. I just read an article about dog training, which also exemplified this. I am happy to discover this attitude here at HubPages. I look forward to more of your articles, which I am following you now, on my road to choosing a pet to compliment my garden wildlife - birds, lizards, butterfly, bees, etc. outside and fish inside. THANK YOU!
