Not all cats are blessed with masters who can take good care of them. Mother cats are known to be caring. So there is likely a chance that her kittens will stay safe even if no one to adopt them. However, things do not always go this way. Unfortunate events happen and kittens can get separated from its mother and siblings. The Right Step
Given that you are a cat lover and you see a single kitten; chances are you are going to foster the little feline. This is a wrong move. Who knows? The mother cat might just be away to look for food. Watch and wait instead. Kittens are best fed with their mother’s milk. With that, mother cats should never be separated away from its kittens. Owners will save a lot in feeding the little ones. In addition, it is only from mother cat’s milk where kittens can acquire the nutrition they need to fight diseases and strengthen their immune system.

In most cases where a kitten looks weak and is left in an open area, the mother cat is unlikely to return. Abandoned kittens can die easily with harsh weather. Their immune system cannot stand extreme weathers. In such circumstance, immediate action is needed. You can bring the kitten to a local pet shelter or adopt it. If you are considering the latter option, be ready with your new set of tasks.

The Need of Warmth
Body heat is important to keep kittens warm. Since kittens are not able to maintain their body heat, they are dependent on their mothers. Cat beds are best to use in sustaining body heat. Cat beds are cushioned with soft fabric or fake lamb wool to give off warmth. Cat beds vary in sizes and shapes. There are thermo cat beds for winter time. However, cat owners should use cat beds with electric heating pad with caution. Heating pads can cause burn. To lower down or soften the heat, wrap the pads with a thick fabric. If your cat or kitten isn’t outgoing, a pyramid cat bed will suit for your pet. With its pyramid shape, this type of cat bed gives privacy for your pet.

Does your kitten resist to be nurse or is too weak to be fed? Visit the veterinarian. Such situation could be fatal. Cat and kittens who are not feeling well should be place on a cat carrier so as not to worsen the situation. Ill cats and kittens may vomit on the way to the vet clinic. Some cat carriers have easy to clean design. If your kitty chills during your travel, it is best to cushion its carrier with pads or fabric.

Limit Its Access
Kittens are vulnerable to diseases. They can’t protect themselves against predators and their immune system is very low. Although kittens are so cute to share, they can carry infections and parasites. Sad as it may be, adopted kittens can bring harm to your other pets. It is recommended to quarantine the kittens for two weeks.
